New for 2024 - we will be running a special 2 up team time trial - with a twist.
We have adapted the ‘Grand Prix des Gentlemen’ race format to create our Grand Prix de l’accord (Race of Agreement).

What is a ‘Grand Prix des Gentlemen’?
Traditionally this was a team of two, one of the riders being a veteran - with a ‘Gentlemens agreement’ that the younger rider would pace the older rider around the time trial course. Some clubs insisted that the older rider was to never ride on the front - hence the agreement.
Penzance Wheelers Grand Prix d l’accord will use a combination of veterans handicapping and other calculations to create our own take on the ‘Grand Prix des Gentlemen’ format.
Each team of 2 will get time allowances for the older member of the team - plus extra allowances for mixed gender teams and a special time deduction worked out on the age gap between the 2 riders. Time is taken when the 2nd rider finishes.
Once the event is completed the times will be entered into a spreadsheet and the overall winners will be announced.
Pre-entry preferred via our Eventbrite page - on the day entry also allowed (but will be more expensive).
Here are the rules
Grand Prix de l’accord
Concept: 2 up time trial that favours bigger age difference between the 2 team riders.
Riders aged over 40 will receive a time deduction allowance based on the VTTA tables – basically the older you are the larger time deduction you get. Ranging from 4 seconds for a 41 year old upto 13 minutes and 8 seconds for a 95 year old.
The first twist is that riders 17 and under will also get a time deduction based on their age – the younger they are the larger the time deduction. Ranging from a maximum 4 minutes for a 12 year old down to 15 seconds for a 17 year old.
To encourage mixed gender teams there will also be an additional allowance for mixed gender teams. This time deduction will be 20 seconds over the 10 mile course.
The final twist is that there will also be time deductions based on the difference in age between the 2 riders – for each year difference in age teams will get a 1 second time deduction. So a team who has riders 50 and 20 years old will have an age difference of 30 – so will have a 30 second time deduction.
The event will be run under CTT rules and regulations and will be a come and try club event so you don’t need to be a member of a CTT affiliated club - teams can be mixed clubs, mixed gender, mixed bikes – the only thing you have to do is be honest about is your age when signing on.
CTT rules require that your bikes are fitted with working front and rear lights and that you wear a helmet. Ebikes are not allowed.
Finish time will be taken on the 2nd rider of the team of 2.
After the race finishes final times will be added into a spreadsheet and the winning team will be the one with the shortest overall time.
Prizes for the top 3 teams.
Maximum number of teams will be 30
