Committee meeting

Minutes  28th March 2023

Apologies:

Commitee Members Present:

Ana Teixeira, Beth Berriman, Jonathan Butt, Anthony Green, Mike Tonkins,  Matt Southam, David Goodrich

Order of business:

1.       Update on Membership/BC

We have currently received £9238  and have 91 members. There seems to be some missing money that we haven’t received yet from British Cycling.

The system is not ideal but at least we have an idea of that is going on.

Funds now coming through okay – David made contact with BC and we have emails with amounts coming into club.

2.       PZW Race update including Carnon Stage Race

We are running quite a few events this season.

For Goonhilly we had 67 entris, of which 20 were women. There were quite a few new riders as well. It was overall a very good day with fantastic feedback from everyone.

We have taken some extra events because if we didn’t, the dates would be open for any Devon clubs to take on.

We will be runnin 9 events in 10 weeks and need a good amount of volunteers. We have been given a donation to the helps to contribute towards fuel costs.

For the Carnon event we have a variety of activities planned and other organisations involved. Sustrans are getting involved and sending the Bike Doctor to the event. BC coaches will attend and provide some training. A local school is helping out with games by their PE teachers. We have booked food and icecream vans for the weekend.

After having talked to 32 people from the community, everybody was very supportive and we feel that as a club we are building good relationships with others.

For this even we will need approximately 60 volunteers.

Update on Carnon downs and season so far

3.       Awards

Some of the awards are basically the same, it feels that some of them are not relevant. Maybe going forward we could think of different awards. Email Ana for suggestions.

Any Update?

4.        Supporting Road Racing (St Eval)

For information purposes, Jon shared that he attended their AGM and the club has lost money last year on races. The club wants to run events but cannot lose any more money. Ant suggested that BC should be insuring the events.

Event was well supported as novice riders including 6 wheelers rode event – crash in the final finish marred the event.

5.       Clothing (Caps)

We’re getting 50 caps for sale. There was a discussion about what price should be charged and if we should wait for postal charges before making a final decision.

Only 5 caps left – we donated some as prizes to Carnon and also to Lloyd for doing design work

6.       Roller Racing Championship (Mike)

After Covid, roller racing has disappeared and Mike has volunteered to organize it. It was suggested that it could be done on a winter night and that to increase numbers it could be opened to other clubs as well. On the same night we could have a jumble sale and a fixing puncture competition.

There are some rooms in St Earth that can be used for free, so that might be a good option.

Any Update?

7.       5 mile trials (Beth)

Club 5’s are coming up and Beth is organising them on Tuesday nights

Seemed to be well received good number of riders – a couple of minor issues – but may need to look at circuit as number of tractors significantly higher

8.       Social (Beth)

Possibilities discussed:

-Maybe John Morse can do an evening of teaching how to fix a bike.

- Curry night Was very nice!

9.       Weekend away (Ana)

As part of the celebrations of the anniversary of the club, we could have a couple of days away in Dartmoor. Ana will put a post on the Facebook page to see if anyone is interested in it

Original plan was slow on take up but something to consider in future
