  2. Ordinary Members Present: Kev Dawson, Rod James, Dave Phillips, Terry Timms, Darren Rundell.

  3. Apologies: John Fazakerley

  4. Follow up from prior meeting: Jon Butt reminded the committee that club rides had been discussed and that subsequently there had been heated debate on the Facebook page, although this has now subsided, but that comments from the last meeting had sparked debate regarding group rides within the club. David Goodrich had also noted the Facebook debate and commented that there was still a need for the return of a Group 1. No actions were decided.

  5. Wheal Velocity: Rod James was invited to speak about the background of Wheal Velocity Youth Cycling Club. He explained that during his time as One and All Chairman, they negotiated the use of Wheal Jane as a location for the One and All Youth Academy, which eventually became independent and known as Wheal Velocity, although still receiving financial support occasionally from One and All.

Jon Butt explained the current situation, he said that Wheal Velocity were now required to return the current clubhouse to the landowners and were in need of £10,000 to build a new facility on a plot of land still at Wheal Jane. He went on to say that they have now received a grant from Cornwall Council, the sum of which is as yet unknown. He asked the committee if we wanted to support them financially.

Mike Tonkin posed the question of how much money we have in the club account, to which Mark Travis replied that we currently have £6500, some of which came from the dissolution of COGS as opposed to membership fees and furthermore we still had funds tied in the kit stock. Jon proposed a donation of £2000 to Wheal Velocity and Mike noted that this would leave adequate funds in the account if we needed to order more club kit. Mike suggested a donation from the club may encourage individuals to donate and Beth Berriman echoed that this could encourage other cycling clubs to donate too. Sarah Tregear commented that the club facilities at Wheal Jane were in need of improving from their current standard.

Mike said that donating to Wheal Velocity had been discussed on a recent club run and response had been positive, to which Beth added she had received a message from Rob Ings in support of donating.

Jon proposed a donation of £2000 to Wheal Velocity, which was seconded by Mike and all 8 committee members present voted unanimously for the donation. Ordinary Members present at the meeting added support and no objections.

  1. Charity Ride: Mark suggested that members may like to donate cakes to this years event on 31st August. It was agreed that the best cake could be voted for and this would be the club bake off award this year, with an additional prize of a British Heart Foundation cycling jersey.

Jon has plotted an inaugural off road ride following interest from Wheal Velocity for this. He added that there were members of Wheal Velocity who do not permit the use of their image in publicity and social media and therefore cautioned the use of their images, without first checking for consent from Wheal Velocity.

Sarah asked about the road route and Jon replied that there were two routes on offer. He also suggested having club ambassadors or group leaders at the event but discussing this nearer the event.

  1. A.O.B. Jon Butt commended the 7 members of the club who have entered the National 10 mile Time Trial to be held in Cornwall on 31st August.

Mike suggested a new venue for the annual club pasty ride, given that Geevor have stopped stocking pasties. He explained that the Wellington Inn in St Just has bicycle parking and is near a pasty shop. Stuart suggested the Cornish Oven in Scorrier as an alternative and Jon suggested Chiverton. No decision was made.

Darren Rundell talked about the next away day he is planning for the club, this will be on September 7th, meeting 9.30am at Lanhydrock for a 35 mile ride.

Jon said, as there is no club hill climb this year, the club hill climb award will be decided at the Mount Wellington Hill Climb on Saturday 14th.

Further dates are: Ken Barclay ride on 7th December, Christmas Breakfast ride on 21st December and Club Bake Off August 31st at the charity ride. Sarah enquired about a date for awards evening but this was not decided.
