Tour de Kernow Ultra - 300km
There is also an option to ride the first half of the route approx 150km.
We have teamed up with The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity - using a similar route to the * Pedals4Patients event in September - to offer cyclists the chance to ride the Tour de Kernow route in one day!
Route
The route will take you out to St Ives, Lands End, back into Penzance via Mousehole - then across to Helston, Gweek onto Penryn and then you past close to the start HQ where you will be able to get some refreshments and gauge your progress (or finish the short route) - before you cross the Fal via the King Harry Ferry (please make sure you have money to pay for the crossing) and over to Goran Haven and St Austell. The route then cuts across to Bodmin, Padstow and skirts the coast over to Mawgan Porth then back inland towards Ladock then across to Shortlanesend, Threemilestone and back to Wheal Jane.
Starting from Wheal Jane at 4.00am please make sure you have lights!
187 miles / 300 km with at least 12,775 feet of climbing
Based on Audax pacing we would expect riders to complete the ride within 20 hours.
GPX route map will be provided - here is a rough plan of the route will be tweaked nearer the date.
The route will be suitable for road bikes - however it does use a section of the Camel Trail from Wadebridge to Padstow
Extra information
As Penzance Wheelers is affiliated to Cycling UK the event will be covered by Cycling UK’s liability insurance and the event will be run under Cycling UK’s guidelines.
Our recommended minimum age for the half distance event will be 12 years. All Under 18’s will need a parental consent form (signed on the day of the event) and under 16’s will need to ride with an accompanying adult/parent - we do not recommend that under 18’s ride the full distance - please make contact with the event organiser for more details.
The event HQ will only be manned at the start of the day, then from for 4 hours in the middle of the day and again at the end of the day.
This will be a self supported event - we will however announce nearer to the event start some check points where we’d ask riders to record they have reached the check point - by taking a photo as proof - or we may have manned checkpoints.
Please feel free to join our Strava group to log your rides and training..
