Stages

The race will comprise of 3 stages held over 2 separate days

  • Day 1: Stage 1: Closed circuit race, time/distance to be confirmed

  • Day 2: Stage 2: 3/4 mile (approx) Hill Climb

  • Day 2: Stage 3: 9 mile time trial

In order to fulfil the requirements of the stage race the riders in each category should compete in the following elements of the race

Category Youth A,B & Junior will complete all 3 stages

Youth C,D & E will complete stages 1 at Wheal Jane plus the closed road circuit at Carnon Downs)

The winner in each category and in each gender will be the rider that completes the required events in the shortest combined time.  If there is a draw we will use the finishing position in the closed circuit race to decide the final positions.

Riders who do not finish any stage of the race can still complete other stages and will receive the time of the last rider in their category to finish the event plus a time penalty of 5 minutes.

Special notes regarding the closed circuit stage

During the closed circuit event lapped riders will be permitted to continue but must not interfere with the faster riders when they are lapped, if the commissaires deem that you are interfering with the riders who have lapped you, you may be pulled out of the race and treated in the same was as a rider who has not finished an event (so a 5 minute penalty will be applied).
There will be time bonuses for the top 3 places in each category:
1st place 10 seconds, 2nd place 5 seconds and 3rd place 2 seconds

Special notes regarding the hill climb and time trial stages

During the hill climb and time trial events you must adhere to the CTT regulations, in particular with regards to drafting or gaining advantage by other competitors. If the officials decide you have gained advantage by drafting you may be disqualified from the event and treated as above and given a 5 minute time penalty.  Following vehicles are not allowed during any of the stages of the event.

Warming up on the hill climb and time trial courses will not be allowed once each race has commenced, please avoid making U turns at the start & finish areas. (We will allocate an area close to the start area where you will be able to warm up on the road.)

Inline with CTT regulations riders must have a working front and rear light and also wear an approved helmet. Following vehicles will not be allowed.

The 9 mile time trial course is a challenging and technical course, so we would advise riders to check the course beforehand. There will be marshals at junctions on the course, they are not allowed to stop traffic, so please ensure you follow the rules of the road and give way to traffic if required to do so.

Bike checks

Bike checks will be carried out before each element of the stage race to ensure they meet the relevant requirements, including gearing and lights (for the HC & TT).  Once checked you should not interfere with the gearing, or anything that may compromise the relevant regulations, on your bicycle before or during the event. We may also check bicycles after the event.

Timing of event

Individual timing chips will be the primary timing device used for all events, each rider will be allocated with a timing chip, we will also have a team of time keepers for the CTT events as a secondary timing system.
