Cornwall Tour of Britain and Carnon Downs legacy

When the Tour of Britain came to Cornwall in 2021 Carnon Downs was chosen as a King of the Mountains prime. The village really got behind welcoming this prestigious event with bunting and flags festoning the route.

Penzance Wheelers got involved with the village and the following week put on a club time trial - with over 50 riders and at least a hundred spectators on the circuit, the seeds were sewn for further events.

2022 saw the event increase in popularity with the additional of a hill climb stage as well as the 9 mile time trial.

Now in it’s 3rd year we have added another element to our event - linking up with our colleagues at Wheal Velocity we have added a circuit race at the nearby Wheal Jane closed road circuit to our existing 2 time trial stages - to create a very special stage race combining the British Cycling event on 27th May and the Cycling Time Trials CTT events on 28th May

Local groups and organisations (not just cycling related) have got involved with this event and we have organised a road closure in Carnon Downs to allow us to put on more events in the village - please make sure you come back to this page to see what we have planned!
