Wild West Weekender - off road 2 day cycling experience in aid of Cornwall Mind
We are really pleased to be involved in this very special weekend. It’s a 2 day off road cycling experience inspired by Katy Roberts Saddle to Sea Adventures, using the Youth Hostel in Penzance as its base riders take on two days of cycling around some of the most interesting locations on the far South West Peninsula.
We started talking to Katy when she joined us for our ride and talk with Sarah Ruggins in January. Katy had the vision of a special cycling event to help highlight the work that a charity very close to her, Cornwall Mind, an independent local charity, who are focused on improving mental health and well being in the region. Katy introduced us to Lucy Chappell who’s role within the charity is community engagement, her experience in this area was the final part we needed to feel confident in what we were planning.
After the first formal meeting we realised that we’d created an incredible team each of us having a something very special to bring to the event. Lots of ideas and suggestions followed over some months from which the Wild West Weekender event was created.
Penzance Wheelers main input has been creating and checking the route for the two days - our cyclists know the trails and tracks in the region as well as anyone, We used parts of Cycling UK’s West Kernow Way for the route, removed some of the less enjoyable sections and added some of our favourite trails and lanes.
